Step 1:Prepare your surface

Ensure that your chosen surface is clean and free of dust, moisture, largely uneven levels and organic materials such as moss/mould.

Step 2: Application of adhesive

When installing onto a frame as seen in the photo below, apply your adhesive directly to the frame. When installing directly onto a wall such as brick, render, plaster, etc. apply the adhesive to the raised areas on the back of the stone wall panel.

When selecting which adhesive to use, select the appropriate glue for the surface you are applying to. In most cases we recommend tile glue for exterior use and tile glue or liquid nails for interior use.

Step 3: Applying AusStone

Line up the stone wall panel to the desired starting point of your wall. In most scenarios, you will start from the top or bottom corner of the wall. Once you have lined up the panel to the wall, apply the panel to the wall applying a firm amount of pressure. Scrape away any excess glue that may squeeze from the edges. Apply slight pressure to the panel to hold it in place while the glue sets. Be sure to periodically check that the stone cladding panel has not shifted while drying.

Step 4: Applying additional stone panels

While the first stone wall panel is setting, it is time to move onto your second panel. Repeat the same process out lined in step 3, ensuring that you have lined up the join to be tightly together. Do not force the join together, they only need to sit touching each other, softly, without a noticeable gap. Apply pressure to the panel to avoid movement and continue with the rest of your wall. 

Step 5: Enjoy!

Your artificial stone wall is now complete and ready to be enjoyed!

Please note the drying time recommended by your chosen adhesive before removing your supports holding the wall in place.

Corners/joins: how to create corners

To create a clean corner/join, first determine the angle of the corner. To determine the angle which to cut each stone wall panel, simply divide the corner angle by two and cut each edge of the stone wall panel to that angle. For example, in the majority of scenarios, the corner of the wall will be a 90 degree corner. This means each stone wall panel will need to be cut at a 45 degree angle. To cut the AusStone stone wall panels, simply use a hand saw, jig saw or a reciprocating saw. These tools cut a fast and clean cut. You will need to lay the panel flat on its face and mark the back of the stone wall panel to suite your measurements. Then carefully cut the stone wall panel to the desired size. Touch up paint is available from Ausgrass if you make any mistakes, damages or to hide any exposed areas.

Fill in spaces: how to fill in gaps

To fill in spaces that are smaller than a full panel, you will need to measure and cut the stone wall panel. Follow the same method mentioned above. Mark the back of the AusStone stone wall panel and cut to the desired shape or size, being sure to cut from the back.
